Welcome to Super8super8!
My name is Steve Cook and I’m addicted to Super 8.
I’m a filmmaker and tutor at The Glasgow School of Art where I run special Super 8 Film and Animation Workshops throughout the year. Despite starting the workshops barely a year ago they’ve proved to be extremely popular, which is why I’m now providing four core Super 8 workshops to individuals and small groups in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
I started using Super 8 a few years back and gradually built up a ridiculaous amount of equipment to go with my Polaroid and Lomo fetish! Although I don’t update my Lomo account as much as I should, please feel free to check out some of my Polaroid work/snaps on Polanoid.net.
The majority of my photography work is freelance and I regually work with the Glasgow Film Theatre and Film Festival. I’ll also be returning to Edinburgh again in June to take up my post as an official photographer which is great fun. I’ll also be presenting a special Cameraless Filmmaking workshop during the EIFF on the 24th June. Should be good!
I also do a fair bit of photography work for the GSA and was recently a Jurer for the Bafta Scotland Scottish Students on Screen Award for best Experimental Film.
Between myself and my partner Kathryn (who I work with on most films), We’ve had our work screened all over, from Edinburgh to Toronto, several screenings in London venues and on the beach in Cannes for our Straight 8 film Autom b in 2006. We’ve also had a great time showing our work in Amterdam as part on the Starting from Scratch Festival and also at the Filmwerkplaats/Worm in Rotterdam - this place is great for learning Super 8/16mm filmmaking..
So, If you’re interested in working with Super 8 or perhaps you’ like to learn to process your own, please get In touch!
Steve
